Purina Pro Plan Savor Review
In my Purina Pro Plan Savor Review I will be reviewing the Grain Free Classic Adult Turkey & Sweet Potato Entree variety.
This review is not scientific or health related and is not meant as a recommendation for your pet. You should always consult with your Veterinarian about how to care for your specific pet’s needs. This review is based only on my dog’s experience on a practical and functional basis.
Please keep in mind that without my dog Teddy this review would not be possible. He is a 10 year old, 23 lb Cockapoo. Teddy suffers from multiple allergies, of which some are food allergies. He gets extremely itchy, which leads him to lick, scratching and chew himself to the point that I don’t want to be in the same room with him. His incessant licking, scratching and chewing leads to hot spots, scabs, a perfectly moist breeding ground for fleas (which he is also allergic to) and a horrible smell if left unattended. He also tends to get loose stools from diet changes. All in all he is a wonderful test subject!
TASTE:
Teddy gives this food
GI TOLERACE:
When evaluating Purina Pro Plan Savor I made an abrupt change to his diet. I do not recommend doing this with your pet! As a trained animal assistant I watch for the slightest change in my pet. I am always ready to jump into action to intervene, at first signs of trouble, to avoid any major reactions. This was done so I could truly evaluate this food for those pets with a sensitive stomach. Please make sure when you change your pet’s diet to do it slowly over a few weeks.
Teddy has had no ill effects and feels tail wagging good.
CONSISTANCY:
As canned food goes, this is a relatively dense formulation “water sufficient for processing”. If your dog has bad teeth, doesn’t drink enough, etc. feel free to add some extra water. If you dog likes being able to sink his teeth into his food, leave it as is.
FEEDING DIRECTIONS:
Each can comes with detailed feeding directions on the can that are easy to follow.
CONCLUSION:
I am please to say that Teddy did not experience any increase in itching or any skin lesions while being fed Purina Pro Plan Savor. He also was able to digest Purina Pro Plan Savor without any stomach upset. Since Teddy has know problems, in both these categories, with many foods I have tried, there is some evidence that this may be a diet worth looking into for a pet with similar problems. Please keep in mind that the results on one pet is by no means conclusive. Many pets are allergic to grains and this flavor variety is labeled grain free.
